The progression of time changes our bodies in many different ways. Eventually, we’ll begin to see the signs of aging appear in the form of loose, saggy skin and wrinkles throughout the facial region. Like the eyes and face, these changes appear prominently in the neck as well. With age, the skin becomes thinner and less elastic. This causes the skin in the area to become loose and develop a saggy appearance. Furthermore, some younger patients suffer from hereditary ‘deep fat.’ In such cases, a neck lift performed by Dr. Demetri can help redefine your facial profile.
There are two types of the neck lift procedure that Dr. Demetri commonly performs: Deep Neck Lifting and Lateral Neck Lifting.
In the ‘Deep Neck Lift,’ Dr. Demetri makes a small 2-3 cm incision hidden under your chin. As this incision heals, it will be hardly noticeable. After he does this, then he has access to your entire neck! His goal is to sculpt the contours of the neck to better and create the sharp jawline that everyone wants. This procedure is ideal for patients in their 20’s to 40’s who do not have abundant loose skin yet. If this procedure is performed by itself, then often it can be done under local anesthesia or twilight anesthesia. It does NOT require general anesthesia.
The ’Lateral Neck Lift’ is designed to help eliminate loose, saggy skin that tends to accumulate around the neck as we get older. This surgery also involves repairing underlying muscle structures in the neck to provide an uplifted and more youthful appearance. Certain patients will require this in addition to the Deep Neck Lift procedure. The incisions for this are hidden behind the ear so there is virtually no noticeable scarring. This approach allows Dr. Demetri to not only contour the jawline and neck but also remove extra skin. It is a safe and effective procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis. This means those undergoing this procedure can safely return home the same day it is performed. Before undergoing a facelift, however, you must schedule an appointment with Dr. Demetri to find out if you’d make a good candidate for the surgery.
If you’re thinking about undergoing this surgery, a consultation is the first step in determining if you are a good candidate. Patients who have loose saggy skin, stubborn fatty deposits, and vertical lines or bands can benefit from a neck lift. Ideally, patients should be in good physical health and have realistic expectations. During your consultation, Dr. Demetri will examine your body and ask about your medical history to determine if you are a candidate for this surgery.

Patients who are taking anti-inflammatory medication, anticoagulants, and herbal supplements may need to stop taking them for at least a week before the procedure. This will help avoid exacerbated bleeding and bruising. They can take Arnica as advised by Dr. Demetri to prevent bruising.
Neck lift patients must request time off work in advance for their recovery process. Additionally, they are recommended to prepare their meals at least one week ahead. This will help them get proper nutrition during their initial recovery.
Patients should secure necessities like compression garments, dressing materials, cold compresses, and pillows for support. This will make the recovery process much easier.
On the day of the neck lift procedure, patients should wash their hair or take a full bath. They must also wear a buttoned-down top for easier changing of clothes.
Patients will need to arrange for a friend or family member to drive them home after the neck lift procedure. Having assistance during the first 24 hours after the surgery is recommended.
Since anesthesia is used during a neck lift procedure, the whole process should be painless. Regardless if it is performed under local anesthesia or twilight anesthesia, our patients are comfortable and relaxed throughout the surgery. General anesthesia is NOT required.
Local anesthesia lasts for four to six hours, and the procedure itself only takes 2 hours or so. Additionally, after the procedure, pain medication is prescribed for a more comfortable recovery period.
After the procedure is completed, it’s normal to experience some swelling, bruising, and general discomfort in the treatment area. These issues are temporary and will subside as you heal. Make sure to clean the sutures and take your pain medication as directed by Dr. Demetri.
You must take time off work and avoid strenuous physical activities after undergoing a neck lift. Dr. Demetri will help guide you through the recovery process to ensure optimal postoperative results.
The results of a neck lift will be different for everyone. Generally, results appear in the form of a more defined and contoured neck that looks more youthful.
The cost of a Neck Lift will depend on several factors. The price can be affected by body type, type of technique performed, surgical complications, and even allergies. Find out more by scheduling a consultation.
