There is nothing you can do to stop your face from aging. You can try to slow down the process, but the natural effects of aging and other environmental factors like sun exposure take a toll every day. Thankfully, surgical procedures like a facelift offer a way to turn back the clock and prevent loose skin and wrinkles from making you look older than you feel.
The facelift procedure was designed to rejuvenate the appearance of the face and neck by getting rid of excess loose skin, tightening stretched-out and weakened facial muscles, and lifting the remaining tissues to give the skin a smooth and youthful appearance.
Facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Demetri Arnaoutakis has performed numerous facial-rejuvenation procedures throughout his career and is capable of providing you with the results you are looking for.
In general, individuals who are unhappy with the appearance of their face and neck due to the effects of aging are excellent candidates for a facelift. Some of the common aesthetic issues that a facelift can address include:
Good candidates for a facelift should be in good overall health and should have realistic expectations regarding the kind of results that are possible through this surgery. During your initial consultation, Dr. Demetri will go over your medical history, examine your current condition, and ask about your reasons for pursuing surgery. You will be able to ask any questions you may have.
A facelift is performed under general anesthesia. There are different approaches and techniques that can be used during the procedure; the techniques used for yours will be decided during your initial consultation based on the results you are looking to achieve.
The incisions for the procedure are typically made behind the ears and along the hairline to ensure that any post-surgical marks are well-hidden. Once the incisions are made, the skin can be lifted and excess skin can be trimmed. Dr. Demetri can then adjust weakened facial muscles. To complete the procedure, the remaining skin is lifted and the incisions are tightly sutured closed.
A degree of swelling, bruising, and discomfort will occur following your facelift. These issues should subside after a day or two. Ice packs can also help to reduce swelling and discomfort, and pain-control medication can be prescribed.
After around seven days, the sutures will be removed. Most patients are able to resume normal activities the same day as their procedure. Strenuous activities will need to be avoided for four to six weeks. Most patients wait about a week before returning to work.
