Is Rhinoplasty Right for Me?

If you are unhappy with the natural appearance of your nose and comfortable with the idea of having surgery, you are a good candidate for Rhinoplasty. Also known as a nose job, this procedure can also be performed to correct birth defects as well as damage to the nose caused by injury. Dr. Demetri will evaluate your overall health and review your medical history to make sure you are eligible for the procedure.

A variety of changes can be made to your nose to address both aesthetic and functional issues. Some of the common aesthetic issues that lead people to pursue Rhinoplasty include:

  • Round or wide nasal tip
  • Large nasal hump
  • Asymmetrical nostrils
  • Wide nasal bridge
  • Excess length

Some people may also suffer from breathing problems due to a deviated septum or some other obstruction that is impeding the flow of air through the nasal cavity. Surgery can be performed to clear the nasal pathway and improve breathing. This is called a septoplasty and can be performed separately or in conjunction with Rhinoplasty.

Your Rhinoplasty Consultation

A Rhinoplasty consultation begins with a discussion of your appearance goals and complete medical history. Dr. Demetri will listen to all of your concerns at this time.

If you are currently on any medications, inform Dr. Demetri during your consultation. You may need to temporarily stop taking blood-thinning medications and herbal supplements to prevent complications during and after a Rhinoplasty.

Once your eligibility is confirmed, Dr. Demetri will discuss surgical techniques and give you an overview of the procedure and its possible results. It is highly recommended to set realistic expectations, since results are different for everyone. We also offer before-and-after morphed photos so you can have an idea of expectations.

Please follow our special instructions to help you prepare before the procedure and guide you during the recovery period.

How to Prepare for a Rhinoplasty

The Rhinoplasty process will be safer and more comfortable if you are properly prepared beforehand. Here are a few things that can help you get ready for Rhinoplasty.

You will need time off from work to recover from the surgery, so request 5 to 7 days off to make sure you get plenty of rest.

Plan your meals at least one week ahead to avoid exhausting grocery shopping. Prepare meals that are rich in protein, vitamins, and nutrients to help your body recover quickly.

Arrange your sleeping area with enough pillows for support. A neck pillow can help you avoid adding pressure to your newly reshaped nose while sleeping.

On the day of the procedure, bathe or shower with mild products before going to the surgical center. This will ensure that your skin and hair are free of dirt that could contaminate the incisions during the procedure. Wear a button-down top to help you change clothes easily after the procedure.

Have someone else drive you on the day of your Rhinoplasty. This will help you get home safely and get as much assistance as possible.

Recovering from Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that may involve fracturing bones, trimming cartilage, and manipulating tissue in order to create the desired results. This may result in some bruising in areas like underneath the eyes. Sutures may be used during the healing process. A cast may need to be worn to help retain the new shape of the nose, usually just for seven days after the procedure.

After a week of recovery, patients can resume light work like clerical jobs. Strenuous activities like sports and heavy exercise are to be avoided for three weeks.

Swelling and some discomfort are to be expected. Any discomfort can be managed with medications provided after the procedure. Be sure to take pain medication as directed. Anti-inflammatory drugs may be prescribed to help manage the initial swelling. A majority of the swelling will go down over the next few weeks. However, the nose continues to change over the course of a year.

How Much Does a Rhinoplasty in Tampa Cost?

The cost of a Tampa Rhinoplasty can vary from patient to patient, and largely depends on the degree of correction required to help you achieve your individual goals. During your consultation, Dr. Demetri will go over his recommendations and pricing to give you a better understanding of what to expect.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty (“Liquid Rhinoplasty”)

Dr. Demetri also offers a non-surgical option for Rhinoplasty. If you are interested in nose reshaping but are not wanting to undergo a surgical procedure, the Liquid Rhinoplasty with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Demetri of Tampa Bay, Florida, might be right for you.

What Can Rhinoplasty Correct?

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, can correct various cosmetic and functional issues of the nose. Cosmetic corrections include reshaping the nose to address issues such as a dorsal hump, crookedness, bulbous tip, asymmetry, or overall size reduction. Functional corrections can improve breathing difficulties caused by structural issues like a deviated septum or nasal valve collapse.

How Long Does Rhinoplasty Surgery Take?

The duration of rhinoplasty surgery can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure and the techniques used. On average, the surgery typically takes around 1 to 3 hours.

What Are the Different Rhinoplasty Techniques?

There are several rhinoplasty techniques, including open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. Open rhinoplasty involves making a small incision on the columella (the strip of tissue between the nostrils), allowing for better visualization and access to the nasal structures. Closed rhinoplasty involves incisions made inside the nostrils, resulting in no external scarring. Surgeons may also employ techniques such as cartilage grafting, tip refinement, or osteotomies (bone adjustments) depending on the individual’s needs.

Will Rhinoplasty Improve My Breathing?

Rhinoplasty can indeed improve breathing in cases where structural abnormalities of the nose are causing obstruction. Procedures such as septoplasty (straightening the nasal septum) or turbinate reduction can address breathing issues, alongside cosmetic corrections.

How Long Until I See Final Results After Rhinoplasty?

While initial results may be visible once swelling and bruising subside, it can take several months to a year for the nose to fully heal and for the results of rhinoplasty to become apparent.

Can I Combine Rhinoplasty with Other Procedures?

Yes, rhinoplasty can be combined with other facial procedures, such as chin augmentation or eyelid surgery, to achieve overall facial harmony and balance. Combining procedures can often provide more comprehensive results.

Will Rhinoplasty Leave Scars?

Scarring from rhinoplasty is typically minimal and depends on the technique used. In closed rhinoplasty, scars are hidden inside the nostrils, while in open rhinoplasty, a small scar may be visible on the columella. With proper care and healing, these scars usually fade and become nearly invisible over time.

Is Rhinoplasty Painful?

During the procedure, patients are under anesthesia, so they do not feel any pain. Afterward, some discomfort, swelling, and bruising are common, but pain is typically managed with prescribed medications. Most patients find the discomfort manageable and rapidly improves within a few days to weeks post-surgery.
